Q: What exactly is pottery painting?
A: You basically pick a piece of blank pottery (bisque), you select your colours and a design, and you paint it onto the piece. Once it’s dry it can then be dipped in glaze and put in a kiln (extremely hot oven). When finished it comes out super shiny and ready for collection.
Q: I'm not very arty, can I still paint!
A: Absolutely, you don’t need to be arty, just keen to have a go, we can provide all the help you need to get you started, we have stencils, sponges and you can even trace a design onto the pottery if you wish.
Q: How long does it take to get the finished piece back?
A: We aim to have your piece back within a few days; if it is a particularly busy period then it may be slightly longer.
Q: Do the paints wash out of clothes?
A: We use 2 types of paints, underglaze and acrylics, If you use underglaze they normally wash out, acrylic paints tend to stain. This is why we provide aprons, if paint does get on your clothes then use a stain remover.
Q: Can I use the pottery that I paint for food use?
A: Of course you can, we want the things you paint to be practical, that’s why we use underglaze paints and glaze and fire everything in our kiln. This means that you can use your hand painted mug or plate everyday if you wish.
Q: Can I put my pottery in the dishwasher?
A: We would advise that you don't as it is a handmade item and the glaze may craze during time, this would make it unsafe for food use.
Q: Can I put my pottery in the microwave?
A: We would probably advise that you do not put it in the microwave. The pottery we use is earthenware and would absorb a lot of the heat, therefore making it very hot to the touch. |
